Numerous versions of off-the-shelf Alpha Liners are available to provide comfort and protection for a wide variety of limb shapes; however, some amputees have specific clinical needs that can only be addressed by a custom liner. This one-hour session provides an overview of WillowWood’s custom option, called the Alpha DESIGN Liner, and explains the methods available for creating this unique solution.

Insights from both clinical and technical perspectives will be presented to explain the aspects of these feet that make them well-suited for use in specific activities.

Suspension Options and Alignment

Today’s practitioners may choose from a variety of lower limb suspension methods, but not every amputee is suited for each option. To help practitioners select the suspension system that will best address the functional needs of their patients, we are offering this one-hour session that examines the clinical considerations associated with common suspension methods, along with the alignment practices that must be taken into account with each one. Results of studies on the effectiveness of some of these methods will also be presented.

WillowWood One®: Success for Your Team

Attendees at this one-day seminar will learn how to fit patients with the WillowWood One System, an elevated vacuum system that improves socket fit, function, and comfort through advances in liner technology and seal design. Course topics include patient selection, component function, shape capture, vacuum parameter adjustment, and troubleshooting. Attendees will receive hands-on experience with patient models in critical aspects of the fitting process such as evaluating the diagnostic socket and customizing the sealing components to apply vacuum over as much of the limb as possible. Participants will also learn how to use the LimbLogic Communicator to optimize their use of the system.

Because WillowWood’s liners and suspension products depend on proper socket fit in order to provide the comfort and security for which they were designed, we are offering this one-hour review of transtibial and transfemoral socket design. Key principles of current design options, as well as adverse effects of poorly fitting sockets, will be presented.

OMEGA® Training
Live Course:   Duration= 2 days     Credits= 11.5 ABC / 16 BOC

Upon purchase of an OMEGA System, practitioners are eligible for this comprehensive two-day training course. The first day begins with an orientation to the software, followed by an introduction to scanning techniques, software tool usage, and customized modification plans to suit the individual clinical need. The second day continues with hands-on practice for capturing and modifying prosthetic and orthotic shapes with some prosthetic socket fitting involvement. An additional online follow-up is part of the training regimen and will be scheduled by the end of the training class. This course is also recommended for new hires of existing OMEGA license holders.

OMEGA: Foundation
Webinar:   Duration= 90 minutes     Credits= 2 ABC / 2 BOC

This webinar will familiarize attendees with the navigation and use of the OMEGA software. Participants will learn how to create new patient shape files and will be introduced to the concept of “stacks,” which are the sets of steps to be completed for the Capture, Design, or Fabrication of the model. Completion of this course is a prerequisite for participating in any of the other OMEGA webinars. This webinar does not include scanner training or socket fittings. 

OMEGA: Transfemoral

After a review of OMEGA system navigation, attendees will learn how to create new transfemoral patient shape files and how to design modification plans based on socket types and tool usage. This course also focuses on creating customized templates and personalizing the OMEGA software to the user. This webinar does not include scanner training or socket fittings.

OMEGA: Transtibial

OMEGA: Alpha DESIGN Software

Prerequisite: completion of OMEGA Foundation
After a review of OMEGA system navigation, attendees will learn the software options available for making a custom Alpha DESIGN Liner from a patient shape file, and how to create the interface material profile on that file. Discussion will include patient candidate selection, liner options, and shape capture techniques. This course is intended for OMEGA users who want to be able to make their own liner specifications during the custom liner process. This webinar does not include scanner training or liner fittings.

OMEGA: AFO

Outcome Research: Clinical Essentials for Vacuum Sockets

In an effort to provide direction for clinicians considering the use of elevated vacuum sockets, this presentation covers the results of recent studies on the physiological effects of this technology on the residual limb and biomechanical effects on prosthetic suspension. The product of ongoing research from a VA Initiative Project designed to improve socket function and comfort, this data will provide guidance for clinicians with respect to initial assessments, potential outcome measures, justification, and prolonged use of vacuum technology for a suitable candidate.

WillowWood One TT System for Technicians
Live Course:   Duration= 1 day

Primarily aimed for the technician in your facility, this one-day seminar will provide hands-on instruction in the fabrication of airtight transtibial sockets for the WillowWood One System. Emphasis will be placed on critical aspects of the process such as fabricating a flexible inner socket, creating an attachment surface for the One Link, and assembling the finished socket. Please note the fee for WillowWood One TT system fabrication training at WillowWood is $250 per attendee.
